Not movement. Not stillness. Deepening.

Not movement. Not stillness. Deepening.

A note about the knowledge that lives in the in-between and why hard seasons counts even when it doesn't feel like it.

There’s something nobody tells you about sitting in times of challenge.

It’s not that it hurts. You already knew that going in. It’s that it doesn’t look like anything from the outside. You’re still showing up. Still functioning. Still answering emails and making dinner and holding it together in all the ways that count. And underneath all of that… you are quietly coming apart and putting yourself back together at the same time.

That’s not a breakdown. That’s actually the work.

I’ve been sitting in my own version of this lately.

There’s an adventure on the horizon for me… one I’ve been moving toward for a while now. A trip with no fixed end date, no home base to return to, just open road and whatever comes next. And I am ready. I am so ready. But I’m not gone yet. I’m needed at home for a reason I can get behind fully. But in the in-between… in the waiting… I keep bumping into this feeling that I should be further along. That the stillness means something is wrong. That I’m not where I’m supposed to be.

It doesn’t actually mean that something is wrong. I know that. But knowing it and feeling it are two very different things.

What I’m being asked to do right now isn’t prepare harder. It’s to pay attention. There is knowledge in this stillness that I won’t be able to access once I’m moving. Things I need to understand about myself before I go. Patterns worth naming. Grief worth paying respect to. Foundation work that doesn’t get done when life is loud.

I’m trying to let that count for something.

I’ve been thinking about this with a client too… someone who is sitting in her own fire right now. She knows a chapter is ending. She can feel it. But she can’t pull the plug yet… not practically, not emotionally, not logistically. She’s still showing up every day to a situation she’s already inwardly left. And somewhere in almost every session, a version of the same question comes up.

Am I falling behind?

She’s not. Neither am I. Neither are you, if this is where you are right now.

We treat these seasons like waiting rooms. Something to white-knuckle through until real life resumes. But some of the most important shifts I’ve ever witnessed… in my own life and in the women I work with… happened in exactly these in-between places. Not because the circumstances got easier. Because the stillness finally forced some honesty.

What’s actually missing? What have I been building on top of a crack in the foundation and hoping nobody notices… including me?

That’s not stalling. That’s deepening. And it’s the only kind of work that doesn’t have to be repeated once it’s integrated.

This week’s tool: The Foundation Check

When you’re in a hard moment and can’t figure out why nothing feels like enough… try this before you add anything else to your plate.

Ask yourself honestly:

  • Do I feel safe right now… in my body, my situation, my environment?

  • Do I feel like I belong somewhere… to someone… to myself?

  • Am I making decisions from those places… or from the gap where they should be?

You don’t need to fix the answers. You just need to know what’s actually running the show. That’s where the real work starts.

What’s Next

If this landed somewhere real for you… I’d love to hear where you are right now. Just reply to this email. I read every one.

And if you’re ready to get honest about what’s underneath the season you’re in, a 1:1 call is where we start. Twenty minutes. Your top three misalignment markers. A clear picture of where your energy is actually going and where it needs to go instead.

Book a call with me here.

Until next time… From The Grey,

You've mastered the hustle. Now let's master the flow. This is a safe space for modern women to return home to themselves unapologetically, authentically, and with absolutely zero fucks given about what "they" might think.
